This guide will help anyone writing for my music project, which primarily includes my YouTube channel and my personal website. I hope to always be the one behind the keyboard, so this guide will apply to myself for the time being.

There are five categories to read about below.

  • Type
  • Names
  • Art
  • Tone
  • Weekly Community Posts

Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be sure to make something great.

Type

All heading type should use the Courier typeface at a point size multiple of 7 and no smaller than 14 (for example, 21 pt., pt. 28).

All other typefaces should be Garamond at 14 point for easy reading.

Courier can also be used as an accent typeface in artwork contexts.

Point sizing can be neglected if working with type rasterized in images/artwork.

Names

sound:concept refers to the project as a whole. sound:concept I, II, and III make up the project and are individual albums.

The sound:concept text should be written with no spaces and no capitalization, with a colon separating each word. Depending on the album, it should be followed with one space and the capitalized roman numeral.

Roman numerals, followed by a period, should be used when referring to each track. This shows the story progression between albums. The numeral should be succeeded by a space and title-style capitalization.

All song names should be succeeded with a space, an N-dash (–), another space, and “Alex Kunce” when being referred to formally. When spoken of casually, you can drop the numeral and artist name.

Example:

I. Town Theme – Alex Kunce

“I enjoy listening to Town Theme while playing Stardew Valley.”

Note: Songs “Night & Camp Theme” and “Town II Theme” should be written using the given ampersand and numeral.

Art

The AJK symbol should only be used in the most current rendition to keep up with brand releases. The outline can be used in black or white, but the color must remain the same.

Similarly, any accent colors should reflect main colors of the latest album release. For example, all colors for sound:concept II should currently be orange #a56a35.

Gold # afa569 can be used as an accent if the given color cannot be used. However, the album-associated color should always be prioritized.

Tone

All statements should be written in a personable tone. Use limited slang and phrases to keep writing accessible to a wide audience. However, jokes, sarcasm, self-deprecation, and references to pop culture add a flavor of personability. Use these sparsely.

The audience is anyone who finds my music online. Therefore, one should cater to those who value independent music production, and most importantly, those who enjoy my music. The tone should never come off as if I think I am better than my audience just because I like making songs.

Weekly Community Posts

Weekly community posts should begin with an outstanding quoted lyric from the week’s album. This should be followed by a double space and a greeting, beginning the paragraph. The paragraph should briefly give background on the album and artist and describe some details about the album as a whole more deeply. There should also be a song highlights portion and a prompt to listen to this week’s album. This should be one running paragraph in order to limit the writer to keeping things short. After a double space, place a link to the album on the artist’s YouTube channel. Also add a screenshot of the album artwork.

Song and album names should be properly capitalized, but italics and quotes will be neglected to retain a sense of familiarity with the music, a casual tone, and an uninterrupted sentence flow.

Unscheduled posts can be more flexible and reflect best whatever they pertain to.
